KALE is an association for all education leaders in Kent.
Our work is led by serving education leaders. We aim to ensure that the voice of education leaders is heard and informs developments in the Kent education system.
One of the ways we do this is through a model of representative leaders elected by their peers. Representatives of schools and colleges serve as members of Area Boards, the Executive Board and Working Groups. Their names and contact details can be found in the relevant listings.
KALE operates a structure of four Area Boards (covering the North, South, East and West of the county), a countywide Executive Board and a small number of Working Groups.
Through these groups, education leaders come together to consider issues, share practice, develop strategies and respond to emerging themes

Area Boards
KALE has four Area Boards covering the areas of North, South, East and West Kent. Each Board covers a number of districts. They meet 5 times per academic year. The membership of each Board includes:
- 1 Secondary Headteacher and 2 or 3 Primary Headteachers per district
- 1 CEO of a MAT
- 1 FE College leader
- 1 Pupil Referral Unit leader
- 1 Special School leader
The Boards are also attended by:
- KCC Area Education Officers
- School improvement Advisers from The Education People
- Director of the area Teaching School Hub
Executive Board
The KALE Executive Board takes a county-wide view of the themes and issues. It is chaired by a serving leader and meets 5 times per academic year; membership includes:
The Chairs of each Area Board and Working Groups,
- 1 FE College Principal
- 1 MAT CEO
- 1 Special School leader
- 1 PRU leader
The Executive Board is also attended by KCC’s Director of Education and SEND and other senior officers where applicable to the topics under discussion.
The Chair of the Executive Board maintains regular communication with the Regional DfE Director for the south-east and member of their team.
